Dungeon Keeper is a RTS game with some aspects of the god game genre within it. You play as a evil Dungeon keeper who must dig out a dungeon using his imps and place rooms to attract creatures. The creatures will fight, train, eat and sleep, they expect pay every so often. The creatures fight Heroes from the land above trying to destroy the players main source of power and health, The dungeon heart.

Dungeon Keeper

Dungeon Keeper was the first installment Of the dungeon keeper Series, released back in Jun 26, 1997. It had an expansion called Dungeon Keeper: Deeper Dungeons and a Dungeon Keeper: Gold Edition, which was released with a map editor and a Direct 3D graphics Update.

Dungeon Keeper: Deeper Dungeons

Deeper Dungeons was a Dungeon Keeper I expansion pack which contained 15 new levels for single and multiplayer and also had improved artifical intelligance for the enemy. It is of far greater difficulty than the original and also sees the return of the Avatar.

Dungeon Keeper: Gold Edition

Dungeon Keeper: Gold Edition was released a year after Dungeon Keeper: Deeper Dungeons in December 31, 1998. It contained The original game, the expansion and various other patches and updates.

Dungeon Keeper 2

Dungeon Keeper 2 was the Second installment Of the dungeon keeper Series, Dungeon Keeper 2 was released in 1999. The main difference between Dungeon Keeper and Dungeon Keeper 2 was the improvement in graphics, Dungeon Keeper 2 was Fully 3D while Dungeon Keeper was not. Dungeon Keeper 2 had some more creatures added and some removed.

Dungeon Keeper 3

Concept designs began around November 1999 and the project was announced in early February 2000. No programmers or artists were ever involved in the project and it was cancelled in March 2000. It was not until August the same year that Bullfrog Productions revealed that the game had been cancelled. At the time, Bullfrog's website explained that it had cancelled production to work on other projects. There is very little information on the game as it was a short lived project announcement.

Dungeon Keeper Online

On the 1st December, 2008 NetDragonWebsoft Inc., an online game developer based in China, announced that they entered into an agreement with Electronic Arts to develop an MMORPG based upon the Dungeon Keeper license. The game is slated to appear only in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau.

KeeperFX

KeeperFX is an dungeon keeper I fan expansion by Mefistotelis. The project is open - source and it's plan is to rewrite the games code using binary taken from the games .EXE file. The expansion will consist of bug fixes/updates and a bundle of fan made expansion campaigns.

Certain projects where announced that had nothing to do with dungeon keeper's creatures/story/levels ect. But instead used dungeon keepers concepts and gameplay.

OpenDungeons

OpenDungeons on is a real time strategy game based on a board similar to the one used in Dungeon Keeper. Players build an underground dungeon which is inhabited by creatures who live in the dungeon. Players fight each other for control of the underground by commanding their creatures and casting spells in combat.

Their are five factions who are battling each other for control of the underworld. Each player picks a faction to play as at the beginning of the game, as well as a color for their side. The faction you choose determines what creatures, and rooms will be available to you during the game.

Dungeon Digger

Dungeon Digger is a presumed dead project that is a similar idea to OpenDungeon. It had basic graphics, Network, animations and other things working but work appears to have stopped about a year and a half ago.They have a website ( [3] ) a wiki ( [4] ) and a forum ( [5] )

Journey to the Avatar's Altar

Journey to the Avatar's Altar is a Role Playing Game themed after Dungeon Keeper, developed by Keeper Klan member Metal Gear Rex. It is created in RPG Maker XP and is a game comprised mostly of Dungeon Keeper resources (Sprites, sounds). Two episodes were released released, but Metal Gear Rex was unhappy with the quality of them so scrapped them for a more releastic and fun episode, containing better features than the previous ones.

Dungeons

A recent RTS project loosely based on dungeon keeper is currently in development in KalypsoMedia : see description here. It's planned to be released in early 2011 and some videos could be found in youtube.

KeeperKlan is an english based forum that is home to the projects War for the Overworld, Natural Born Keeper, Journey to the Avatar's Altar and it also has a section specificaly for KeeperFX. Apart from fan projects it has sections for discussion on Dungeon Keeper and Dungeon Keeper 2. It also discusses anything Dungeon Keeper related having a strong partnership with Dungeon Keeper.NET

Dungeon Keeper.NET

Dungeon Keeper.NET is a primarily French speaking website and forum, although it does contain an option for writing to be displayed in other languages. It is well known as a hosts of a variety of Dungeon Keeper related tools, as well as fan made maps and patches. It is also the home of the fan made Dungeon Reaper comic.

Dungeon Keeper - Portal

Dungeon Keeper - Portal is a polish dungeon keeper site with a forum, information on DK games and download section offering a variety of downloads for Dungeon Keeper and Dungeon Keeper 2 like Map Editors and a download for KeeperFX. It has news updates every now and then, sometimes DK related but and sometimes not. There is no way on - site to translate the website to a Non - polish language. The majority use google translate to use the website.

Keepshow

The german site Keepshow explains in detail how to create maps for Dungeon Keeper, and how to use Dosbox to get Dungeon Keeper running under recent operating systems. Also it gives information about the strategic use of creatures and rooms, and tells the german user how to configure the game to make it run like the international version. Keepshow is the only website on those matters in german language.
