We have a lot of photographic reference for "props" and human characters of that era. But how about some dungeons references for atmosphere, something DKII seriously lacked.

Bridge the Gap
Lava and some other stuff
Prison and Sewage System

As you can see, sinister glows (orange, red) + dark places + damp = atmospheric

Really need to translate that into the dungeon levels.

Thanks Dre@m, I like the second and third pics, that's the kind of look/atmosphere I'd like to achieve in WFTO. We could add quite a lot of atmosphere simply by incorporating some mist/fog effects into the engine.

Yeah, the atmosphere in those pictures is really good. I especially like the last one. It's all damp and crudely put together. If you could get that atmosphere in the game it would be immense.
